Different Types of Homemade Cookie Recipes

There are so many different types of cookies that you often see them divided by type. There are refrigerator cookies that must have the dough chill before you can work with it. Bar cookies are made by spreading the dough across a sheet pan and baking one large piece, which is then cut into bars. Drop cookies are made by dropping the dough onto the cookie sheet by the spoonful. No bake cookies do not require a visit to the oven; they usually go to the refrigerator to chill instead. Cookies can be rolled, cut, shaped, filled, and dipped. In fact, there are so many different ways to make cookies that you could probably make a new recipe every day and not repeat one for more than a year.

You can decorate your cookies or not. Decorating is usually done with various types of frosting, sprinkles, and even fondant. Decorations can be realistic or whimsical. They make excellent treats for birthday parties when decorated to a theme. Decorate them for holidays or even the big game. Just make sure you are decorating something homemade. Homemade cookies of all types are far better than store bought cookies. They have no preservatives or funny recipes, and you get to eat them fresh instead of a week after they have been baked.

Deciding Which Cookie Recipes to Make

Deciding what cookie recipe to make is part of the fun. Do you want chocolate chip? Peanut butter? Oatmeal? What about something completely different? An Introduction to Homemade Cookie Recipes

Homemade cookies are special. Most of us have at least made a batch or two as we grew up. While there may be problems when you are learning how to make cookies, they usually lie in the baking part of the recipe rather than the mixing. Common problems when you learn to make homemade cookies include over baking, under baking, baking at a temperature that is just too high, and so on. Sometimes you just need to get used to the idiosyncrasies of your oven to make it work.

Since cookies are so small and they bake for such a short time, every little issue your oven has can show up in the results. Unlike roasting a chicken or baking a cake, cookies finish quickly. There is not room for any oven issues if you want them to turn out properly. If your oven is not accurate in temperature, for example, you could get an oven thermometer. This will tell you how much the oven temperature is off, so you can adjust for it.

Once you master making easy homemade cookies, you can indulge in their goodness whenever you have time. Homemade cookies are delicious, especially when they are warm from the oven. They are soft or crunchy, depending on the recipe and ingredients. Some can be chewy, while others are filled with a treat inside, like jam. There is nothing like a cookie that has been freshly baked. For some, it is the epitome of comfort food.

How Easy Can Cookie Recipes Be?

Cookie recipes can be as easy as mixing a few ingredients together, portioning it out, and then putting it into the refrigerator to chill. That is the basic recipe for a no bake cookie. You really cannot get much easier than that. Other cookies may need to be baked, but they are still almost as easy.

Cookies have been made for centuries, in all sorts of ovens. If our ancestors could make cookies in an oven heated by a wood fire, you can certainly make some in a modern oven. Most cookie recipes could easily fall in the easy category. One way you can make cookies even easier is to keep the ingredients for your favorite recipes in stock. That way, when you get a craving for your favorite cookies, it is simple to gather the ingredients and make some. No trips to the store are necessary. Once you have mastered a recipe, you can practically make them in your sleep.

How to Serve Cookie Recipes

Serving the cookies is what gets you all the kudos. The moment your kids or coworkers see that platter of cookies, their eyes light up. You may need to monitor that no one gets more than their share; there is something about a pile of cookies that brings out the need to hoard, in a good way, of course. Cookies made for dipping should be served with coffee, tea, or milk.

Cookies can be served with a scoop of ice cream or with a drizzle of chocolate. You can even use two cookies and make an ice cream sandwich out of them. Of course, probably everyone's favorite way to eat cookies is just out of hand. However you decide to serve your cookies, you will know your effort has been appreciated by how quickly they disappear.

Five Reasons to Make Your Own Cookie Recipes

There are lots of reasons to make your own cookie recipes, but we will keep it to the top five. After all, you need time to make cookies!

1. They Are Fresh!

There is nothing like eating fresh cookies still warm from the oven. They are comfort food at its sweetest. Serve them up with a glass of cold milk and you have a winning combination.

2. There Are No Preservatives.

Store bought cookies are meant to remain "fresh" the entire time it takes to package them, ship them, unpack them, put them on shelves and wait for them to be purchased. That means they need preservatives to keep them from going bad. Homemade cookies are eaten quickly; they have no need of preservatives; just good, wholesome ingredients.

3. You Have More Choice.

At the store, you are limited to what they have in stock. At home you can choose from hundreds, if not thousands, of cookie recipes to make, including those that address special dietary issues.

4. Nothing Says Love Like Making Homemade Cookies.

That is right...by making a batch of cookies, your family knows you care about them enough to make them a very special treat. This is something they will look back on fondly as they grow up, memories of hot cookies, fresh from the oven. You cannot substitute store bought cookies for this kind of family memory.

5. They Are Easy!

Making a batch of cookies takes very little time and effort, but the reward from seeing all those happy faces gives back a thousand fold. Why not take a little time and make your family's day with some homemade cookies?

How to Make Memorable Cookie Recipes

Cookies can be memorable... don't you have some you remember from your childhood or from a special event? Perhaps your grandmother always made a specific cookie you loved at the holidays or your mom made you a special batch to take to school on your birthday. Making cookie memories is not hard. All you really need to do is put a little thought into it. Here are just a few suggestions to help you along.

Ingredients and Presentation

Sometimes you can make cookies memorable by what you put in them. Always using fresh eggs from your own hens or from the farm stand can make a big difference in flavor. Alternatively, perhaps you like to add cashews instead of peanuts. Alternatively, maybe you use large chunks of chocolate instead of tiny chocolate chips. Whatever you choose as your signature ingredient will help make them memorable.

Presentation can also make a lasting impression. Perhaps you display your cookies on a big platter with lacy doilies on it, decorate your cookies a certain way, or you could make cookies on a stick so they are like cookies and lollipops at the same time. Use your imagination and you will never be forgotten.

Quality and Quantity

Another way to make your cookies memorable is to make them the very best cookies you can. People will remember the best chocolate chip cookie they have ever eaten... and that goes for any other type of cookie, too. You could also go for quantity. Imagine what a striking image a giant mountain of tiny, bite size cookies would make. Alternatively, perhaps you could make great big monster cookies. That would certainly make them stand out in the minds of people who were used to normal size cookies. Even better, a monster pile of monster cookies...that would really make an impression!
